Project Background and Challenges
In the second half of 2024, a well-known auto parts manufacturer in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) launched a new factory expansion project, which mainly produces automobile engine parts and belongs to the precision manufacturing industry, which requires extremely high reliability of power supply – once the production line is down, it will lose more than 5,000 U.S. dollars per minute. Therefore, the stability and safety of the power supply system became the core demand of the project.
The project faces two core challenges: first, the factory is located in Bangkok city, surrounded by residential and commercial facilities, there are strict restrictions on equipment noise and fire rating, the traditional oil-immersed transformer oil leakage, fire hazards, and noise, can not meet the requirements of on-site installation; Secondly, the Thailand Electricity Authority (PEA) on the import of power equipment strict requirements, all equipment must provide TISI certification (Thai Industrial Standard Certification), otherwise it can not pass the power supply system. Secondly, PEA has strict requirements for imported power equipment, and all equipment must provide TISI certification (Thailand Industrial Standard Certification), otherwise it cannot pass the acceptance of grid access, and will face the risk of detention during customs clearance.
After three rounds of technical negotiation, on-site inspection of the factory and sample testing, the customer finally chose Jinma Electric to provide “medium voltage switchgear + dry-type transformer” integrated solution, the core reason is that Jinma Electric has the qualification of TISI certification, a wealth of experience in industrial complete sets of projects and rapid technical response capabilities.
Jinma Electric integrated program design
In view of the high reliability and safety requirements of the automobile manufacturing industry, the technical team of Gemma Electric designed a set of “five-proof” locking type intelligent power distribution scheme to realize the safe, stable and efficient operation of the power supply system, taking into account the local standards and site conditions in Thailand, as follows:
1. High-voltage side: KYN28A-24 type indoor AC metal-clad transfer switchgear (6 sets)
– Protection level: IP4X, effectively preventing personnel from accidentally touching the electrified part of the equipment and safeguarding the personal safety of on-site operation and maintenance personnel;
– Functional Configuration: Containing circuit breaker cabinet, isolation cabinet, voltage transformer cabinet and grounding switch cabinet, it realizes hierarchical control, protection and monitoring of high-voltage power distribution;
– Core advantages: adopting VSI-24kV vacuum circuit breaker with excellent arc extinguishing performance and automatic isolation function for short-circuit faults, which can cut off the circuit within 0.1 seconds after the fault occurs, ensuring personal and equipment safety, and at the same time reducing the impact of the fault on the whole power supply system.
2. Transformer side: SCB14-10kV dry-type transformer (5 sets)
– Model specification: 3 sets of SCB14-1600kVA/10kV (for main power supply of production line); 2 sets of SCB14-1000kVA/10kV (for power supply of auxiliary equipment);
– Core advantages: adopting epoxy resin casting process, the coil is molded as a whole, with flame-retardant, fireproof and explosion-proof characteristics, no need to set up separate fire spacing when installing in the workshop, which saves the space in the factory area; the operation noise is as low as 60dB or less, which doesn’t affect the working environment of the workshop and the neighboring residential areas; the insulation performance is excellent, which adapts to the environment of high temperature and high humidity in Thailand, and the service life can reach more than 25 years.
Technical parameters and certification
In order to ensure that the equipment meets the local standards and international norms in Thailand, all the equipment has passed the international authoritative testing and certification, and Gemma Electric itself also has a perfect qualification system, as follows:
1. Jinma Electric qualification: ISO9001 quality management system certification, ISO14001 environmental management system certification, ISO45001 occupational health and safety management system certification, to ensure that the production process is standardized, environmentally friendly and safe;
2. Product certification: KYN28A-24 switchgear and SCB14 dry-type transformer have passed TISI certification (Thailand Industrial Standards Certification), CE certification, CB certification, of which TISI certification is issued by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute in person testing to ensure that the equipment fully meets the requirements of Thailand’s power grid access;
3. Implementation standards: strictly in accordance with GB/T 10228-2015 (dry-type transformer), GB/T 3906-2006 (3.6kV ~ 40.5kV high-voltage switchgear) implementation of the production, and at the same time, reference to the international standards of IEC 60044, IEC 60298, to ensure that the quality of products meets the international level.
Installation, commissioning and technical services
Considering the compact installation space at the customer’s site and the unfamiliarity of the local operation and maintenance personnel in Thailand with the operation of the equipment, Gemma Electric sends three senior technical teams with more than 10 years of experience in industrial complete sets of projects to go to the site for a five-day guidance service, providing professional support throughout the process:
1. Foundation acceptance: assist customers to check the flatness of the channel steel of the foundation of the switchgear cabinet and the quality of grounding to ensure that the foundation meets the installation requirements and to avoid vibration, poor grounding and other problems in the later operation of the equipment;
2. Cabinet installation: precisely adjust the verticality of the cabinet, with the error controlled within 1mm, to ensure that the cabinet is closely connected and to avoid gaps that lead to dust and moisture entering and affecting the operation of the equipment;
3. Intermodulation test: Verify the “five prevention” functions of the switchgear (preventing wrong opening and closing of circuit breakers, preventing pulling and closing of disconnecting switches with loads, preventing hanging of ground wires with electricity, preventing closing of gates with ground wires, and preventing wrong entry into electrically charged intervals) one by one to ensure that each function operates normally; meanwhile, test the linkage performance of the transformer and switchgear to ensure that the power supply system is coordinated and stabilized. Meanwhile, the linkage performance of transformer and switchgear is tested to ensure the coordination and stability of the power supply system;
4. Personnel training: Provide full English operation training for the customer’s operation and maintenance personnel, covering daily inspection, fault troubleshooting and emergency treatment of the equipment, and provide detailed Operation and Maintenance Manuals (in both Chinese and English) to ensure that the customer’s operation and maintenance personnel are able to operate and maintain the equipment independently.
Project Achievements and Market Value
The project successfully passed the acceptance of the Power Authority of Thailand (PEA) and was officially put into operation in December 2024. After one month’s stable operation, all the performance indexes of the equipment have reached the design standard, and significant project results have been achieved:
1. Stability of power supply: The whole set of power distribution system operates stably without any failure or shutdown, and the reliability of power supply reaches 99.9%, which fully meets the power supply requirements for precision production of automotive parts and avoids huge losses caused by power outage for the customer;
2. Compliance guarantee: because the equipment has complete TISI certification and related documents, the customer in the customs clearance is very smooth, only 24 hours to complete the customs clearance process, to avoid demurrage, saving a lot of time costs;
3. Market value: the successful landing of the program marks the complete set of power distribution equipment of Jinma Electric formally entered the high-end industrial market in Thailand, breaking the pattern of the local market being monopolized by European and American brands, and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent expansion of Thailand’s automobile manufacturing, electronics and other high-end industry projects.
