35kV Power Transformers Project Background
Kazakhstan is located in Central Asia, the climate is harsh, long and cold winters, the northern part of the winter temperature as low as -40 ℃, hot and dry summers, the temperature can reach 40 ℃, the temperature difference between day and night is large, while the local wind and sand, the resistance of the power equipment to low temperatures, wind and sand, condensation and dew resistance ability requirements are extremely high.
Siberian Railway is one of the world’s longest railroads, of which the Kazakhstan section is an important freight hub, bearing a large number of cargo transportation tasks, the power supply safety requirements are extremely high – railroad signaling system, freight station loading and unloading equipment, power supply of residential areas along the route rely on the section of the power grid, once the power supply is interrupted, it will lead to the rail transportation stagnation! Once the power supply is interrupted, the railroad transportation will come to a standstill, resulting in huge economic losses.
In order to ensure the security of power supply along the freight hub of the Siberian Railway, the Kazakhstan Railway Department launched a power supply system upgrade project, plans to replace the old 35kV power transformers along the line, to enhance the capacity and reliability of power supply, to ensure that the railroad transportation and the residents along the line of the safety of electricity.
The core requirements of the project: the equipment must be adapted to the extreme cold climate (-40℃~40℃), have the ability to resist freezing, condensation, wind and sand, and need to be certified by GOST-K (Kazakhstan national standard certification), and at the same time require a short delivery cycle and perfect after-sales service. With many years of experience in alpine region projects and product solutions that meet the requirements, Jinma Electric successfully won the bid and was responsible for supplying 8 sets of 35kV power transformers.
Jinma Electric alpine solution
For Kazakhstan’s extremely cold, windy and sandy climate characteristics, Jinma Electric technical team for the project customized S11-M-6300kVA/35kV oil-immersed transformer, using a number of special processes to ensure that the equipment in the extreme environment of stable operation, the specific program is as follows:
1. Model: S11-M-6300kVA/35kV oil-immersed power transformer 8 sets, used for the main power supply of substations along the railroad, rated capacity of 6300kVA, voltage level 35kV/10kV, to meet the large-capacity demand of railroad power supply.
2. Special technology (suitable for high-cold environment)
– Vacuum oil injection: adopting vacuum oil injection process, transformer oil is injected into the tank under vacuum environment, which completely excludes water and gas in the oil, prevents the oil from freezing under low temperature, avoids the insulation breakdown of transformer coils, and ensures that the equipment can be started and operated normally under the environment of -40℃;
– Low-temperature-resistant sealant: low-temperature-resistant rubber seals are adopted, with excellent sealing performance, which can maintain good elasticity and no leakage under -40℃ environment, preventing wind and sand and moisture from entering into the interior of the equipment and affecting the operation of the equipment;
– Forced oil circulation air-cooling: equipped with low-temperature starting fan, the fan can start normally in -30℃ environment, automatically adjust the fan speed according to the transformer load and ambient temperature, to ensure that the equipment can effectively dissipate heat in low temperature in winter, to avoid overheating and tripping; at the same time, the fan adopts the design of dust-proof, to prevent wind and sand from clogging, and to adapt to the local environment of sandy winds;
– Anti-condensation design: Equipped with an intelligent anti-condensation device, when the humidity inside the equipment exceeds the set value, it will automatically start the heating device to reduce the internal humidity and prevent condensation from occurring, avoiding the coil and core from being rusted by moisture and prolonging the service life of the equipment.
Certification and service
1. Certification: In order to ensure that the equipment meets the local standards of Kazakhstan, S11-M-6300kVA/35kV transformer has passed the GOST-K certification (Kazakhstan national standard certification), IEC 60076 international standard certification, and the certification documents are complete, which ensures that the equipment can pass the acceptance of the local electric power department and the grid connection smoothly.
2. Technical service: Considering the harsh local climate and limited construction conditions in Kazakhstan, Gemma Electric arranged a technical expert with more than 10 years of experience in alpine areas to go to the site to guide the installation and commissioning and provide professional support throughout the process:
– Installation guidance: according to the local climate and site conditions, guide the customer to install the equipment, focusing on guiding the equipment foundation frost protection, grounding protection and other key aspects to ensure that the equipment installation meets the requirements;
– Commissioning test: conduct comprehensive tests on the electrical performance, low-temperature resistance and sealing performance of the equipment to ensure that the performance indexes of the equipment meet the design standards;
– Personnel training: Provide full English operation training for the operation and maintenance personnel of the local railroad department, covering the daily inspection of the equipment, fault troubleshooting, winter anti-freezing maintenance, etc., and provide a detailed Operation and Maintenance Manual (in both Chinese and English) to ensure that the operation and maintenance personnel can independently operate and maintain the equipment;
– After-sales guarantee: establish a special after-sales team to provide 24-hour remote technical support, and at the same time, arrange cooperative after-sales outlets in Kazakhstan to ensure that when the equipment malfunctions, personnel can be dispatched on-site to deal with them in a timely manner, so as to ensure the safety of power supply.
Project Effectiveness and Market Value
In April 2025, 8 sets of transformers were successfully completed production, testing and shipment, and arrived at the designated location in Kazakhstan in only 15 days through the China-European liner, which is 20 days shorter than the sea transportation, ensuring the project progress on time. Under the guidance of technical experts, the installation, wiring and commissioning of all equipment was completed in only 8 days, and the equipment was put into operation smoothly.
After the equipment was put into operation, after a winter test, the operation was stable without any failure, the specific results are as follows:
1. excellent low-temperature resistance: in the extreme low-temperature environment of -40℃, the equipment can start and run normally without icing, leakage and other problems, and the stability of power supply reaches 99.9%, which ensures the safety of railroad transportation and the residents along the line with electricity;
2. strong resistance to wind and sand: the equipment has good sealing performance, the wind and sand did not enter the equipment, the fan operates normally, the heat dissipation effect is stable, to avoid the wind and sand damage to the equipment;
3. Convenient operation and maintenance: the equipment runs stably, and the anti-freezing and anti-condensation design reduces the workload of operation and maintenance in winter, and the local operation and maintenance personnel are able to independently complete the daily maintenance and troubleshooting through training.
The successful landing of the project marks the official entry of Jinma Electric’s alpine transformer products into the Central Asian market, breaking the monopoly of European and American brands in the field, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent expansion of Central Asia, Russia and other alpine projects, and at the same time enhancing the visibility and authority of Jinma Electric in the field of international alpine power equipment.
